PRO BONOSCUPA'S PRO BONO
The Pro Bono Committee has picked Let There Be Mom as our charity to sponsor in October for their annual Dine Out for Mom which will be held on Thursday, October 24. Participating restaurants donate 20% of their total sales to Let There Be Mom on this date. Last year, there were over 147 participating restaurants. For those who don’t know, Let There Be Mom works to preserve the legacies of moms and dads with life-threatening illnesses. Projects for families include things like family photo sessions, pottery projects, scrap books, quilts made from clothing, gifts for the future, letters and thumbprint charms.
This year, we would like SCUPA members to volunteer to pick a participating restaurant and pick a service time – breakfast, lunch or dinner – and just represent Let There Be Mom. The volunteer works an approximate 3 hour shift at a specific site – need 2 volunteers per restaurant, per shift – and greet guests, thank them for participating in Dine Out For Mom, explain what the organization does, and just generally is a face for the organization. Once Let There Be Mom knows which restaurants will be participating – the deadline is later this month – then we can register to volunteer. I would like to know in advance of all members who want to, and can commit to participate, so we can let the organization know how many positions we can fill. We will be contacting all volunteers and updating the details as we get them. This is an easy service project. You can sit or stand during the time you are there. You get to talk to nice people. The shifts are only 3 hours. And your participation will assist the organization Let There Be Mom to assist families dealing with the hardest time of their lives. If you knew your time was limited, what would you like to leave behind for your children? What would you like to give them as they graduate? Get married?
